About the Position:

As a Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for ensuring that construction activities on-site are conducted in accordance with approved plans, specifications, and shop drawings. This role requires a full-time presence on the construction site to perform inspections, monitor safety, and ensure quality standards are met. You will work closely with contractors and the project team to assess progress, resolve issues, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and contract documents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Interpret plans and specifications to verify that construction work aligns with approved shop drawings.
  • Maintain a full-time presence at the construction site, performing inspections and preparing necessary reports.
  • Monitor construction work for safety violations and issue field directives when necessary.
  • Prepare Non-Conformance Reports for any work not performed according to approved shop drawings.
  • Maintain daily activity logs and reports, including photographs.
  • Assess physical progress of work and verify quantities for progress payments to contractors.
  • Prepare reports on labor, materials, and equipment on-site.
  • Conduct quality surveillance and monitor specific quality-related activities.
  • Assist in supporting and maintaining a safe work environment while ensuring compliance with LACMTA's safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate and oversee technical inspections (electrical, landscaping, soil testing, concrete, environmental, asphalt mixes, reinforcing steel) to ensure conformity to specification requirements.
  • Support in reviewing submitted shop drawings for deviations from contract documents.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Approximately five years of field experience on heavy construction projects, specifically in transportation or transit construction, with expertise in disciplines such as utilities, geotechnical, civil, roadway, structural, electrical, track work, and railroad systems.
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Licensing/Certifications:
    • Valid California Class C driver’s license.
    • Ability to obtain Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30-hour training certification prior to commencing work.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to document and report work in a clear, organized manner.
    • Knowledge of construction safety standards and regulations.
    • Familiarity with construction software and Microsoft Office applications.
